UK Government Introduces Workplace EV Grant
The Workplace Charging Scheme is a scheme introduced by the UK government that provides financial support to businesses, charities, and public sector organisations to install EV charging infrastructure.
The scheme is part of the UK government’s efforts to increase the availability and accessibility of EV charging points across the country.
Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to 75% of the total cost of installing EV charging points, up to a max of £350 per socket.
It covers the cost of the equipment and installation, including any groundworks and electrical upgrades. The WCS grants are available for up to 40 charging sockets per applicant.
To be eligible the business must meet certain criteria, you must have off-street parking available for your employees, and need to be able to demonstrate a need for EV charging stations.
The scheme covers a range of charging infrastructure, including both standard and rapid charging points. Rapid charging points are particularly useful for businesses with high turnover of vehicles, as they allow for faster charging times.
The WCS is administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). Applications for the WCS must be made through the OZEV website, and applicants must provide information on the number of EVs that are likely to use the charging points, the location of the charging points, and the expected usage patterns.
